Ask About Grief Counseling

What is grief counseling?

Grief counseling is individual therapy focused on your experience of loss, your relationships, and the changes you are facing. Sessions can provide space to express feelings, explore what the loss means to you, and consider support for everyday life.

There is no expectation to explain everything at once or to feel a certain way. Your needs and goals guide the work.

When you may want support

You may be seeking counseling after a death, the end of a relationship, or a major change in health, work, or family life. You might want help speaking about your loss, handling difficult reminders, or communicating your needs to people close to you.

Grief affects people differently. Sadness, anger, numbness, and guilt may come and go. You do not have to pass through a fixed sequence of stages before seeking support.

What we can work on together

  • Making space to talk about your loss and what matters to you.
  • Identifying support and manageable routines for difficult days.
  • Preparing for anniversaries, holidays, and other reminders.
  • Exploring changes in relationships, responsibilities, and identity.
  • Discussing what you need from others and how to ask for it.

Early sessions focus on understanding your concerns and deciding what kind of care fits. If other concerns need attention, Gina can discuss anxiety and depression therapy or trauma therapy with you. Treatment recommendations depend on assessment; grief alone does not mean you need a particular diagnosis or treatment.

Online grief counseling across Florida

Gallo Counseling serves Sarasota, Venice, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Parrish, St. Petersburg, and Tampa through telehealth. Sessions are also available to appropriate clients elsewhere in Florida. You will need a reliable connection and a private place to talk.

All appointments are online. The Sarasota address is an administrative office, not an in-person counseling location. Please discuss your location and whether online care meets your needs before scheduling.

You can contact the practice when you want support. Gina will talk with you about your concerns, circumstances, and goals to help determine a suitable next step.

Can I attend counseling and a grief support group?

You can discuss both options with Gina. Individual counseling and peer support offer different kinds of help, and the combination may suit your needs.

Can my Christian faith be part of counseling?

Yes, if you choose. Faith integration is optional and guided by your preferences. Clients of all beliefs are welcome.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no preset number. Gina will discuss a plan with you and review your needs and progress over time.
